Veolicty08 Church Camp - update

The following statement was made at one of our teaching sessions,

“Many Christians live between the Cross and Pentacost.”

Our speaker, Noel, made the point that at Pentacost in Acts 2 the Holy Spirit came like a flood upon the disciples.  Before this happened they were infected with the “me” virus.  Thomas doubted, others were afraid and confused.  Yet the Holy Spirit empowered them for greatest.  They literally turned the world upside-down!  In Acts 1:8 it says, “8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  God flooded the people with the “we” antedote!

*  challenge:   What you doing to take territory around you for Christ?

  Are you living past Pentacost?

beam me up scotty

Last year, Cisco and Munsion Systems performed the world’s first real time 3D holographic telepresence video presentation. In other words, two men interacted live on a stage. But one was physically present in India, and the other was a life-size 3D holographic projection from California.  Amazing technology- check it out.

Angels answer

Kayla is curious about the role angels play.  Here’s my response to her question from the shoutbox;

The Hebrew word for angel is “malak” and the Greek is “angelos”. Both meaning angel i.e. God’s messenger.  Their mission in heaven is to praise, honor and glorify God (Rev 4:5).  They devote themselves to doing His will (Psalm 103:20).  Since heaven can directly interact with earth, they also have a mission on earth.  They accompany God in His work of creation (Job 38:7).  They also assist God’s providential ordering of affairs (Daniel 12:1).  Above all, they are active in the divine work of reconciliation (from Gen 19:1-2 onward).  They rejoice when an unbeliever comes to a saving relationship with Christ (Luke 15:10).  Angels observe carefully and desire to look into the believer’s salvation according to 1Peter 1:12.  It’s interesting to note that two angelic names Michael and Gabriel end with - el emphasizing “elect”.  Angels are God’s elect to minister to us.  David wrote in Psalm 8:5 that “man has been made a little lower than the angels.”  Think about this for a moment.  Angels will never have a salvation experience like man.  They were created for a different purpose I shared earlier.

When I reflect on God’s creation, which includes angels, I’m humbled at the detail and foresight of His plan.  It reveals to me how Big God is and how small I am, and the difference between the two!  Thanks for a great question Kayla.  If anyone out there would like more info, I’d be happy to share more beyond what I can type and also connect you with some great resources.  Have a God glorifying day today!

keep moving forward

Found this video clip that exudes perseverance.  Sidney Rittenberg once said in a commencement speech, “I assure you friends, that you are much stronger than you think.  You have resources within you that can produce great strength and talent.”  If you currently find yourself staring failure in the face, learn from it and move forward.  Greatness is produced through your ability to learn from failures and press on.  Enjoy this clip.

the heart

I’ve been studying the leadership of the Apostle Paul.  What intrigues me most, is that Paul focuses on being before doing. “Who you are” comes before “what you do.”  Ingredients of an effective leader begin with the heart.  They include;

to believe- all human hearts need to have faith in something or someone.

to belong- all human hearts need to experience community and family.

to become- all human hearts need to grow, stretch, and reach their potential.

How bout you?  What and who do you believe in?  Are you connected with others?  Are you growing to reach your full potential?

radically unchurched quote

I’m reading a book called, Radically Unchurched.  The following question offers accountability to focus on the vision of reaching the lost;

“Is your church more aptly described as a hotel for saints, or a hospital for sinners?”  Alvin L. Reid

Celtics!

Seeing as though I love the Celtics, here’s a tribute to yesterday’s convincing win over the Hawks from Celtic legend Bill Russell. His words challenged me to assess how I view and value the team members around me.
